Welcome To Our Garden |
|
| As you drive up to the Cabana and the Coady’s house, gardens surround you. Eight years ago when Matthew and Jane were married, there were no flowers, and no landscaping. That didn’t last long. Matthew was soon asked to start digging up the sod he had put in to give his two young children a place to play. Weedy areas and steep slopes were contoured and grassed into a holding pattern. Borders started to emerge and it all started to take shape. | and Matthew’s level up above, another into the steps down to the Cabana, and yet another into a lower rock walled patio where the pool is planned to be. Trees and perennials, self seeding annuals and bulbs vie for space, keeping the weeds at bay. A continuing work in progress the landscape could be termed evolving rather than executed. Every year we say “That’s it!”, and every Spring new projects start! |
| Now paths lead in all directions. From the driveway one leads to the lower house where Jane’s Mother lives, another wends its way upwards to Jane |
Steps, seats, sun and shade can be found throughout the garden. Places to sit and rest, contemplate or soak up rays. Garden rooms abound, paved patches, grassy glades and tiled patios can be found as you meander through this peaceful place. |
| The garden has been used for community fund-raising events and garden tours. With over half an acre, surrounded by a half acre of cherry orchard and fallow fields, privacy is a natural feature, but has been amplified in case of future change. Matthew’s architectural leaning combines with Jane’s feel for plants to create a many layered landscape evocative of an English garden. Scent hangs heavy especially in the evening as many plants have been chosen not just for colour and texture, but for scent. |
| Lots of places to sit and think, sunbathe or read.... art and whimsy abound on decks and grounds.... wherever you go the sounds of water can be heard .... and around every corner and turn there’s a new surprise. The garden is a delight Jane loves to share with guests who are interested. |
